Yahoo! Keitai (Yahoo!ケータイ) is a Japanese mobile internet service currently run by SoftBank. It is referred to SoftBank 3G at large. It was originally created in 2000 by J-PHONE under the name J-SKY. In October 2003, Vodafone, who had bought 70% of J-PHONE in 2001, renamed the 3G service to Vodafone Live! Vodafone was operating 3G services in Europe under that name, so it was bringing its Japanese operations under the same umbrella. In October 2006, SoftBank bought Vodafone's Japanese telecom operations, renaming the service to Yahoo! Keitai. SoftBank originally announced that they would shut down all 3G operations on January 31st, 2024, but they ultimately delayed the date to April 16, 2024 due to the Noto Peninsula earthquake.
Under the Yahoo! Keitai branding, its applications are called S!Appli (S!アプリ). They run on MIDP J2ME with some custom API, making them closer to base J2ME than DoCoMo's DoJa / Star.
