Sonic the Hedgehog (ソニックザヘッジホッグ) is a mobile port of the MegaDrive/Genesis game by the same name, released originally on i-Mode (DoJa) in Japan, with a European localization on this platform having been released under the name Sonic the Hedgehog: Contest Version. The i-Mode (DoJa) version is a full-featured port of the original game, although various alterations in terms of physics and boss design have been made. Various preinstalled Japanese versions are preserved, although Act 1 of Labyrinth Zone and onward require either a data download to the SD card or the download of an additional app that would've had these levels.

The mobile phone version was later released in the West on J2ME by iFone (which was later acquired by Glu Mobile, who also re-released said version under their name) under the names Sonic the Hedgehog: Part One and Sonic the Hedgehog: Part Two. While most of the content has made it faithfully into the J2ME port, the Special Stages and the sound effects were removed. A few J2ME versions for low-end phones use an entirely different, more simplistic engine, which was written from the ground up by iFone and is not based on any DoJa version.

Glu Mobile also seems to have arranged deals with Nokia, Samsung and Sony Ericsson to have demos of Part One preinstalled on various J2ME phones. In China, this version was released on J2ME by China Mobile Games and BMIT. A J2ME version in one singular part was released in Europe and China as a preinstalled game on Panasonic phones, however, while a firmware file of the Panasonic VS7 is available, no extraction attempts have been successful so far.

The feature phone release is notable for sharing similarities with the highly infamous Game Boy Advance port.
