Monster Chronicle (モンスタークロニクル) is a role-playing video game released in 2008 by Gameloft for i-MODE and Yahoo! Keitai. The game was released on August 1, 2008 for Yahoo! Keitai, while the i-MODE version was released on August 4, 2008. The i-mode version is compatible with FOMA 903i / 703i series or later, and the Yahoo! Keitai version is compatible with 3G-compatible handsets.[1]The game later received a western localization through the DSiWare platform under the title Crystal Monsters. [2]

Gameplay[edit | edit source]

The gameplay of Crystal Monsters involves the capture and training of a variety of creatures called monsters. Monsters can learn up to four moves called skills. Just like in most role-playing video games, monsters are able to gain experience points and level up after battles, making them stronger.

The game uses a turn-based system. Whenever the player encounters a wild monster or challenges a trainer, the screen changes to a battle scene with the opposing monsters and an option menu. The player may have up to three monsters on your team. You can attack, pass to the next monster on the team, use an item or flee the fight.

This game also offers a full range of online functions. It includes a “market” where players can buy and sell monsters with other players, a “quest download” where players can download additional quests, and an “arena” where players can compete against other players. In addition, there is an “Account Center” where additional credit points can be purchased, and “Digital Contents” where ringtones and wallpapers can be downloaded for a fee.[1][1]

DSiWare Re-Released[edit | edit source]

Gameloft announced the release of the game Monster Chronicle for the DSiWare platform. The game was released in PAL regions on July 30, 2010, and in North America on July 26, 2010. They changed the title to Crystal Monsters.
