Monotone was an RPG released exclusively for i-mode devices by Square Enix in 2006. The game follows Mono, who fights to restore color to a grayscale world. As he defeats monsters in battles and puzzles, Mono restores color, sound, and hope to his world. Notably, this game's sidequests, monster designs, and character designs were periodically sourced from the general public. Users would vote on the best ideas, and the top-voted ideas would be incorporated into the game. Additionally, Monotone had an in-game points system that could be used to redeem in-game equipment or phone ringtones and wallpapers.
