Keitai Wiki Style Guide
This page is a work in progress.
Beginning of Article[edit | edit source]
You should prioritize writing the first sentence of your article.
That's because it is recognized as a meta-description and used by Google's search algorithm or as a description when pasted on Twitter or Discord.
And currently accepted style is to put the translated name first, then the original Japanese name is parentheses.
- Example: Bomberman 3D (ボンバーマン3D) is a 3D mobile game released by Hudson on Chaku☆Apu♪.
Previously, posts were written to include "Japanese" in the parentheses. We later realized, basically ALL names will be in Japanese, so this text is redundant. We are trying to phase out this style.
- Example: Bomberman 3D (Japanese: ボンバーマン3D) is a 3D mobile game released by Hudson on Chaku☆Apu♪.
Please use the first style and correct any pages still using the second style.
DX Versions[edit | edit source]
For many DX versions of Japanese mobile games, the DX functions the same as the original, only with better graphics, sounds, and features. If the DX version is the same base game as the regular version, both games should be described on the page for the original base game.
Example: Argus and Argus DX
Argus DX is an upgraded graphics version of Argus. Instead of making a page for Argus DX, we will add information on Argus DX to the Argus page.
Preferred Translations/Transliterations for Game Titles[edit | edit source]
Japanese Word | What you might get from Machine Translation | What you should use |
---|---|---|
大富豪 | Millionaire | Daifugo |
百人一首 | 100 Poems by 100 Famous Poets | Hyakunin Isshu |
ジャンケン | Rock, Paper, Scissors | Janken |
直感 | Intuitive, Intuition | Chokkan |
対戦 | Competitive, Competition, Battle | Battle or Taisen (subjective choice) |
Symbols in Titles[edit | edit source]
Occasionally, Japanese keitai games will include unusual characters and symbols in game titles. If you encounter a game like this, we encourage you to create an article with the full name (symbols included) BUT ALSO make a redirect on a page that does NOT have the symbols included.
Example: Tetris☆Docomodake
A user searching for this game will probably not be able to type the ☆ symbol (they may not even know that the title includes this symbol). If a user searches "Tetris Docomodake" without the symbol, they will see a list of search results, rather than the correct page, because MediaWiki requires the article name to be a perfect match.
To assist users searching on the wiki, we want to create an article for Tetris☆Docomodake and redirect it to Tetris☆Docomodake
