i-mode (iモード) is a Japanese mobile internet service created by DoCoMo in 1999. It was the world's first mobile internet service, allowing cell phones to access the internet and a variety of web services. Applications developed for the i-mode service were called i-αppli (iアプリ), and they ran on DoCoMo Java (DoJa). The i-mode website, a part of the i-mode service, hosted storefronts for video games. It shut down on November 30, 2021. The entirety of the i-mode service will shut down on March 23rd, 2026.
