EZweb

EZweb was a Japanese mobile internet service created by au (subsidiary of KDDI) in 2001. It was meant to rival DoCoMo's i-mode internet service. Like i-mode, it hosted its own services like EZnaviwalk (web mapping platform) and EZmovie (movie player). In 2004, it became the first Japanese cellular service to offer an unlimited plan. From 2001 to 2005, its applications, called EZ-appli (EZアプリ), ran on J2ME. However, in 2005, it switched to Qualcomm's BREW platform. As such, the vast majority of EZweb games run on BREW. au/KDDI discontinued EZ-appli downloads on March 31st, 2018. KDDI shut down its CDMA 1X WIN 3G service on March 31st, 2022, effectively shutting down the EZweb service.
